ABOUT

Seeing a gap in published stories across the Arctic, Arctic Youth Network launched its in-house virtual publishing platform, “The Exchangeto facilitate the sharing of content on subjects of direct relevance to Arctic youth and to provide youth with a forum to share their perspectives, stories, ideas, and concerns with each other and the world.

With the support, mentorship and training with our Editorial Director Karli Zschogner based in Inuvik, NT Canada, we are here to amplify the voices of youth through the publishing of digital content and editorial material, bringing together creative youth from diverse backgrounds and providing a medium for the exchange of ideas, news, and pertinent Arctic stories at the individual, community, and global scale.

Here are some question prompts on developing an idea to a pitch:

1) A hook and summary of your story plan, who is involved, what medium, where this fits best in their content

2) Why is it important - Why should we care

3) Why you’re the best person to do it - ex. Closeness, have an in/more trust from the community, ensure told sensitively, more fully, OR your experience - while ensuring objectivity

3) Briefly, what’s your plan of action and research (careful not to give too much about your plan, sources as don’t want the worst-case scenario and they have someone else take your story/send another reporter)

4) More information on what format plan to tell story - radio, print, photos (how many), video, graphics, multimedia
